depression

Question Posted Tuesday August 22 2006, 9:53 pm

Alright, I really need advice on this question. I think I might have depression. You see, lately I have been feeling so bad about myself for no reason. I've been getting so upset over the most obscure things, getting so jealous of other people, and just disliking myself. I've been crying for no apparent reason, and I have the worst mood changes. It's like I'm really happy one minute and then I get really bummed out and start crying and idk why. I always feel like everyone's so much better than me and I suck at everything but deep down I know that's not true. I have extremely low self confidence and I have no clue why because I have a lot of loving friends and family. And I took a depression screening test online and it said I might have moderate depression. I really want to start feeling better, but I'n afraid to tell my mom and family. My mom will probably just say that I don't have depression and get angry at me because she might think I'm blaming her for something. My parents are the best parents ever and sometimes I feel selfish for being sad all the time because I know there are people way worse off than me. So, what I'm asking is: Do you think I have depression? And how can I tell my family I need help without them thinking I'm blaming them for being sad? I really don't think this is just what teenagers go through, because it seems like all of my other friends are happy all the time and I'm always bummed out. Please help. Thanks.

Ok,theres a reason why youre depressed and you either know what it is and hope its not the reason WHY youre mad or you just dont know what it is.Have you ever liked a guy that didnt like you back?Do your parents fight?Do your freinds leave you out?If the answer is no to these questons then nothings wrong with your surroundings but somethings definetly wrong with you.Have you been going through a struggle to get something you wanted REALLY badly but you couldnt get it or got it when you lost hope that it would ever be yours?Mabey thats it.Other than that i think you should thank God very much for what youve got, great parents, great freinds and youre probably pretty but cant see that because of what youre going through. So much others have worse problems like the kids starving in africa. If you dont thank god he can take it all away and give it to someone that really needs it.Anyway i think you should go tell your mom everything you feel and just cry it all out.Ask her to make you feel better and hopefully thats the solution to your problem.

well...you need to find a way to build your self confidence... and you said that your not good at anything but there's a lot of things out there to do..you could dance, go bowling things that doesn't make you feel depressed something just for the fun of it... now my mother has depression yet she found something that keeps her happy besides me and my sister... her JOB! so do something that makes you feel good.. eat, hangout with friends,go to a funny movie(Benchwarmers) lol anything! if you can't do anything of these which i think is entirely impossible sinc you sound like a smart girl/guy so i don't think you'll have a problem but if it comes to that then tell your parents ,PHRASE IT LIKE THIS: mom dad... i'm feeling very sad these days... and i don't blame you for anything but do you think you could listen to what i have to say? i'm pretty sure it will work.. or do them both!

if anymore questions write me

good luck,

It sounds to me like you do have depression. There are many different types of depression, which are caused by a chemical imbalance. If the chemical, serotonin, isn't produced enough, then this makes you sad. I'd suggest that you ask your mom to make you a doctors appointment and talk to your doctor about it. They will refer you to a psychiatrist which will prescribe you medication that will help you (most often Zoloft, Welbutrin, Paxil). Many people suffer from depression. Girls are twice as likely to have depression than guys. They have hormonal changes which are caused by puberty, menstration, pregnancy and menopause. This is a very common thing which should be addressed. Just explain to your mom how you are feeling and that you read online that it could be caused by a chemical imbalance and ask her if you can make a doctors appointment to get it checked out so you can feel better. If you want, you can check out these websites also. They may help you understand this better. I hope this helps! Good luck! <3 Dana

p.s. I would love to know how things turn out!
