RPM range

Question Posted Saturday August 12 2006, 2:23 pm

You said that you need to switch gears when the RPM range is 4000-4500. I was always taugh to change 2000-3000. What's the difference?

well 2000-3000 is to me the point at which i take out the clutch and go into first gear. now the fact is every car is different and you may have a different transmission than the ones i've used. but in the end the only reason i'd shift higher is to get going faster before shifting. that way you gain more speed before shifting and move faster. and if you really want speed push it to about 7000-9000 and shift up. i do it at 4000 so as to gain more speed and get moving quicker.
