Boot into safe mode by going to start, run, typing msconfig, hit OK, and then in the system configuration utility go to BOOT.INI and under boot options, go to safeboot and click OK. Scan your computer and when you want to go back to normal startup, just go back and uncheck safeboot. After startup in normal mode, check the box that says not to show you the system configuration utility on startup. Also, try using windows defender, it detects changes made to your system. Webroot Spy Sweeper is a very good antispyware program, but it is not free. [ baseball34's advice column | Ask baseball34 A Question ]
Family_Guy answered Thursday August 3 2006, 4:53 am: Does this happen only on certain sites? If so, just avoid that site, if it occurs capriciously, boot into safe mode and run spybot search and destroy, avg antivirus, and adaware. When you run the programs out of safe mode, the files may be in use which means that the program can't delete them, spybot will try and correct this by requesting to run at startup, if so, allow it. Orpheus answered Wednesday August 2 2006, 8:58 pm: Newer versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer have a built-in Pop-up Blocker that works well for me. It is probably only a matter of time until Mozilla provides a similar feature. Keep checking for Mozilla updates and you will probably get lucky sometime soon. There is no way to stop them. you can spend a thousand dollars to get rid of popups and still get them you can prevent them but you cant be completely rid of them.
