Volleyball try-outs

Question Posted Sunday July 30 2006, 1:49 am

Hey all. Well, I'm 14/f and I'm entering the 9th grade in August. I was thinking about playing volleyball in highschool, even though I don't have that much experience (playing in p.e. class), and they said that no experience is needed. I'm not sure if I should try-out because I don;t know if it would be best to be on the team in the 9th grade, or wait till next year, go to volleyball camp before the next season, and try-out in the 10th grade. I'm confused, and I don't know what to do. Could you guys help me. Also, what are they looking for, as of skills that'll get you on the team? Thanks.

i would try out... buy a volleyball and practice at home... if you dont make it then go to the camp and try out again... but if you dont try out you might regret it.. im sorry i dont know many of the skills... i played tennis and ran track instead of volleyball... but for sure try out

I would go for it! the early your try out the better. and who knows you could be a natural! If you are worried practice with a friend that plays or a family member to get you ready for tryouts

Of course you should try-out! The saying is practice makes perfect... as long as you practice you should become a great player. What they are looking for is not only skills, but they are looking for attitude and confidence. In try-outs, keep your head high and have a positive attitude. Its your choice when you want to try-out. I SUGGEST that you join right away so you can practice more. But its your choice. Go to camps, and you can become a talented player. trust me. I play volleyball and i get nervous about camps and i always have 2nd thoughts... go and try new things. remember- a positive attitude, practice alot and you should get on a good team.

I'd say go for it..try out as a freshman because its great for colleges to see that you stuck with something for 4 years [if you make it] and even if you dont you can still go to volleyball camp and try out next year, either way its best to at least give it a shot.

hey there. just go for it. if you make it this year, then awesome! it'll be a great way to learn all about the game. but if you don't make it this year, you can always go to the volleyball camp next year and then try out. but you should definitely take the chance of trying out, even if you don't think you're going to make it. as far as i know, you need to be fast and have lower and upper body strength. i think to prepare, you can probably start running and lifting weights or something. :) good luck.
