ok, i have just started to play the guitar and i was wondering what's the difference between tabs and chords. and which one is easier to play??
also, what are some easy songs to learn (classic rock preferably), and not to be obnoxious but i don't like playing more than one note at a time.
please and thank you.

---3---
---0---
---0---
---0---
---2---
---3---
(that is the tab version of the chord G)
so you would press down the corresponding strings and so forth. the best way, i've found, to learn and get good at all this stuff is just to sit down every day for a few minutes and figure out a new song. as for which one is easier to play, that's your choice. when i first started out, i wasn't so great at improvising so i read tabs because it would tell me exactly what to play. however, now that i've been playing for a while, i can make up little fills off the top of my head so if i hear a song, look up the chord progression, and sit down with my guitar, i can play something that sounds remotely like it. it's pretty cool, and if you ever get to the point where you can do that, then congratulations because it's really fun.
a good first song is "life in the fast lane" by the eagles. the intro is quite easy, once you get it up to speed and it's only one note at a time. as you progress with your playing, you'll be able to finish out the song because you have to play multiple notes at the same time (chords!).
i taught myself to play, and the reason i've been successful is because i have taken time to listen to what guitar music actually sounds like and i take time to figure it out by ear. music is a fun thing, so don't stress yourself out over it. good luck, and email me if you have any questions! i am learning too!
from the top the strings are
E lephants
A nd
D ogs
G row
B ig
E ars
thats a peom to learn them. Also, instead of reading off of note sheets which are hard to read if you don't already play an instrument, you can read tabulation charts. They are just an easier way to read off how to play guitar.
the BEST site to use for tab charts is
www.mxtabs.net
also other things tips are
*always press HARD on the strigns (YES IT HURTS!!!! VERY MUCH but youll get used to it)
*hold the strings IN THE MIDDLE and make sure your not touching any otehr string with any otehr fingers.
* cut your nails before you practice, they can get in the way and its harder to learn
* paint your nails so tehy look cute =]
learn all of your chords at first because those are very important, you can find them on the tab site too so dont sweat it
oh and some easy sogns to learn at first are..
(METALICA songs are real easy do those first)
-wake me up when september ends by green day
-hey there delilah by plain white t's
-midnight highway by daphne loves derby
-enter sandman by metallica
-come as you are by nirvana (really cool, easy and fun beggining)
-one by metallica
-dance dance by fallout boy
also, master of puppets by metallica is really cool to play, but its super hard! but soudns awesome you can work on that too if you want
