family...how are they related?!

Question Posted Sunday July 23 2006, 9:50 pm

So, I've always wondered--you know how on TV they're like "Your mom's cousin's twice removed aunt.." or something like that? Well what does 'twice removed' mean?! Haha, it's so confusing.

Also, what would your grandfather's brother--make him to you?

What about your grandfather's cousin?? What would that make him to me?

lol sorry for the confusion & thanks for your time.

This is something that always confused me too for many years.

Until I read this article at the Wikipedia:

The article really explains it all a lot better than I can here.

To answer your questions:

Your grandfather's brother is your Great Uncle or Grand Uncle.

I'm assuming that you mean your grandfather's first cousin, that person would be your first cousin twice removed.

And your (again I'm assuming) first cousin's child would be your first cousin once removed.

'twice removed' means divorced, twice. I THINK. i may be wrong.

your grandfather's brother would be your 'great uncle'

& your grandfathers cousin would be your 3rd cousin.
