Brown period blood?

Question Posted Sunday July 16 2006, 1:07 am

I started my period on the 6th of July, a Thursday, and everything seemed normal, red blood. Then on the Sunday, as instructed by my doctor, I started my birth control pills (for the first time). Since then, my period blood is dark brown, almost black? And I doubt it is just dried blood, seeing as when I wipe, the fresh flowing blood is the exact same colour. What's going on? Is it related to the birth control pills? If it helps, I still have my period at the moment, and it's showing no signs of stopping, and I'm 15 years old and have been having my period since January 13th 2005, not regular.

Additional info, added Sunday July 16 2006, 1:31 am:
But Before this period, my last period was on May 14th. Could it just be old blood that was inside for a while, because I hadn't had my period in almost 2 months?.

You could call your pharmisist and ask what side affects come along with taking this medication. They would know more than anyone about what medicines to to your body.

This is common if you have just started taking the pill. You can potentially have brown blood for three months while your body adjusts. Give a quick call to your doctor and they will explain it. Hope you feel better!I too am suffering cramps at this time:)

Call the doctor that gave you the birth control pills. Ask him if your blood should be brown. Sometimes its normal for it to be brownish, but i'm not sure about almost black! Your safest bet would be to ask the doctor!
Good luck!
