the only reason they're high is because companies are allowed to charge whatever they want and because we're at war with iraq right now (a leading producer of oil). five years ago gas was about $1.09 a gallon here in austin texas. now it is $2.65. five years ago we weren't at war with iraq now were we? and let's face it we got it easy. in england gasoline costs about $9.00 a gallon. and it's not cause they're at war it's cause it's just always been expensive there for some reason. here it's because of war, price gouging oil companies, and people claiming we're running out. gasoline isn't running out. we have plenty to last us the next few generations. hell porsche just released a new twin turbo carerra. don't let gas prices stop you from driving when awesome cars keep coming along.

just remember in the city of dubai gas prices are $1.20 a gallon. the US is just in a bad situation with gas right now is all.

OKay gas prices are so high because we get our gas from a different continent & it takes a lot of money to transport ALL that gas in a ship to a train to a truck to a Gas Store & stuff. That`s one of the reasons. The second reason is that gas is becomming very valuable & their are over 20 million people in America who use cars so imagine how much gas can one state take? Plus America is not the only Country that needs gas there`s Europe & other countries too. Plus since ther is a war going on where we get our gas why would someone from Iraq give us gas when there`s a war going on ? So it`s pretty hard to work with gas but still the U.S still shounld`nt be charging that much for a gallon.

Hope I helped!

Among the other reasons that were already stated, dont forget that gas is nonrenewable meaning once we use all the oil, thats it, Its gone. As for the $5.00 thing, I'm assuming as now the prices are raising (on top of greedy people looking for more profit) to lession the use of oil. The prices are something of a tactic to ward off excess use of the oil. Reasons for that would be A) we are running out of oil, and B) Enviromental issues. The polution caused by fossil fuels definitally has a couple pennies to do with the cost. Why its $3.00 and higher, i dont know but I'm going to say that most of the price is due to compainies wanting a higher profit.

There is no REAL reason for gas prices to be so high. Last quarter the gas companies reached the highest profit levels that they've ever experienced. America has the largest oil reserve in the world and yet we import our oil. There is definite evidence that the oil companies are manipulating the market and yet we do nothing about it. Notice the higher they go with the gas prices the more we go and buy SUVs, boats and any other gas guzzling apparatuses. We really aren't doing much to stop them and until we do they will keep raising the prices. You see the prices in the rest of the world have been extremely high for years. Someone wants to get the whole world at the same price point to control us and to make a bigger profit. Venezuela, though, has the lowest gas prices in the world. They are at $.14 a gallon. If they can do it, so can the rest of us, but that would defeat the purpose of these inflated prices. It's all about making more money. I've included some websites for you to browse through. The first one is a list of oil prices in all countries and then the rest are articles. Maybe they will help you to understand what is going on here. You won't feel any better, but you will have a better understanding.

It's a question many of us ask every time we fill up at the pump. The real place to levy the blame is OPEC, the 11-country oil cartel (plus Mexico) that conspired to raise the price of oil.

And, just FYI: A barrel of crude oil contains 42 gallons of the substance. And the price of a barrel of crude oil cost $41.20 Based on this information the cost per gallon of gasoline should be $0.98 per gallon plus applicable refining fees and taxes.

On average 42 cents goes to the government, 61 cents goes to the refineries and five cents goes to the individual gas stations. Based on that knowledge the price of gasoline should be only $2.07 a gallon currently.

$0.98 per gallon + $0.42 in taxes + $0.61 variable refining cost and profit + $0.05 profit for individual stations = $2.07 per gallon!!

A ten dollar increase in the price of a barrel of crude oil should only cause gas to rise 25 cents.

Also, remember if the price of gasoline is affected by supply and demand, you can make the price of gas decrease by driving less, carpooling, riding bikes, walking, or driving more fuel efficient cars!

Mainly because of the OPEC [Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries]. And because of the strong demands for oil in Asia.

Hope I helped!

Hahah, well gas prices are going high because the US has to buy gas from places like Iraq and places that has oil. Unfortunatly we do not have oil, so we have to buy it at a high price and then sell it for tripple the price to make money. Hope i helped haha
