How do you know how many stamps to put on a package?

You would need 2 stamps, but it depends on how big of a package your talking about. but for the most part..only 2 stamps.

well, the most recent stamp show the price to mail a letter, the number of stamps to use is the number of stamps it takes to count to the current price.
