dads driving me crazy

Question Posted Tuesday June 20 2006, 1:44 pm

this morning my mom came in my room and gave me a list of things to do like: clean up your room pick up the house do ur laundry do the dishes make 4 flower arrangements w/ the flowers i brought home from work hang up my clothes etc. i dont really mind b/c its summer and im used to helping out but the way she asked was just soooo degrading she didnt say please or anything along those lines and she said my dad is mad b/c he expects the house to be clean every day when he gets home and im on break to help around the house when i kno im on summer break to rest from school and get ready for next year. im just really mad my dad treats me like his maid not like his daughter i feel like the only thing hes happy about w/ me is that i do his laundry. he treats me like what ever i do isnt good enough even during the year im doing alot better in school than my sister ever did and hes always on my case about that stuff. i feel like i dont have a dad i have a boss. he gets home from work every day complains about the house being a mess even if it isnt then tells us about his day and goes upstairs. it drives me crazy because he doesnt know me at all i know he pays for stuff and i appreciate that but i dont feel like its enough to qualify him as a parent. i cant tell him or my mom this b/c theyll just yell so what should i do? my parents are driving me crazy!
(sorry this was so long i just really need some help)

well almost all parents drive their children crazy...i understand how you feel like you're not wanted only for chores around the house..your parents are really hard on you and the fact that if you tell them and they'll yell is horrible. try doing something productive and helpful to your life that will take your mind off their bitterness towards you such as music, art, sports, or hanging out with your friends..your parents seem like they arent understanding people but they need to know that you all cant live miserable. Try talking to your dad more he talks about his day so talk about yours, let him know you, even if there are times he may put you down. also know that you only have 1 and so it's better to build communication with him and have someone you'll know who loves you and appreciate what you do around the house. just try to grow a relationship with him and a better relationship with your mother. Parents are best at driving you crazy but it's apart of life sometimes...hope i helped

Aww, don't worry. My dad is the same way. It's probably just stress. He sounds like he has a hard day at work and he wants to make sure that you guys appreciate what you have and be grateful. Try hanging out with him sometime, you know, when he's fixing his car, or something, be interested in it. Ask him some questions about guys, stuff like that. Maybe he feels like he can't really talk to you 'cause you're in your teenage years, you usually think that your parents are dorky, and whatnot.

Hope I helped!
