Question Posted Saturday May 27 2006, 9:04 am

Could someone please tell me how I can get rid of blanket weed in a large fish pond. It grows at a phenominal rate.

You should be able to buy a meshed bundle of straw from a fish stockists or large pet shop. You may even be able to make one yourself. Float this on the water and it's supposed to keep the weed at bay. I've tried it in the past and it does work.
Hope that helps, good luck.

I've heard that you can use one of those bottle cleaners, you know the brushes with bristles all around it. You strap that to a long stick and you can basically wave it around in your pond and the blanket weed tangles around it nicely.

Better to spend a few bucks and get a UV filter or find some other means to try and keep it off permanently. Of course having a proper (working) filtration system would be the best way.
I've become a great believer that a Trickle Towers helps a great deal in controlling algae and green water.
