Tanning

Question Posted Thursday May 18 2006, 2:20 am

I went to the tanning salon yesterday for the first time. I went into a low pressure bed for 20 minutes and I got a little burned. Not to the point where I don't want to go back again. I'm planning on going back tomorrow but how long should I only stay in for? And I wasn't using lotion or anything. What do you suggest for someone who got kind of burned?

i worked at a tanning salong for four years. i would definetly cut down your time to at least 10 minutes. i know from experience that they shouldn't have started you at such a high time. your body has to get used to it. the first day you should do 10 minutes. do that for a couple days and then you increase 2 or 3 minutes every couple days. you should be using some kind of lotion so check and see what kinds they have at your tanning salon.

You shouldn't been allowed to stay in for over 5 or 10 minutes since it was your first time. If you decide to go back just ask for less time.

If it's the first time of the season you really ought to start at short periods of time and build up. Some girls will start as low at 4 minutes and add an extra minute every day. That way, you don't get burned, just tan. The lotions they seel you are notorious overpriced and not very effective, just bring your own thick body lotion and slather it on beforehand (this will avoid dry skin under the bulbs).
Sunscreen is always good for avoiding cancer....definitely consider it.
Always wear eyewear.
Remember: tanning is bad for you, just so you know.

deffinitally use suncreen. and put it everywhere. because once when i went i only put it on my face and arms and my legs got burned. the burn hsould go away in a day though. you are supposed to start low and work your way up. maybe go for 8 minutes. then the next day for 10. then the next day for 12, and just work your way up. and dont be scared if you are in there and really hot - to get out. i suggest using the sunscreen they have there. it works really well.. but if you get like one ones from CVS or soemthing then your not supposed to wear them in the tanning beds. so if you wear that kind, do it at home. good luckk

hope this helps!! :] ♥

hey. my best advice would be to use a light sunscreen- like 8 to 10- and stay in for about 15 minutes. that way you can still get sun but you wont get anymore burnt. it can never hurt to spend like a week just making your way up. Monday: 10 minutes Tuesday: 15 minutes Thursday: 20 minutes Friday: 25 minutes. that way your body can soak up some rays without getting burnt. hope this helps!! :) ♥ ♥ ♥
