Codeine Addiction

Question Posted Wednesday May 17 2006, 9:08 pm

I am writing this letter to you because I don't know what to do. I am really scared that my use of Codeine is out of control. I feel pressured by my friends to be part of the drug scene. I see people in the media using drugs for pleasure. When I'm high on drugs, I forget all my problems and school is unimportant. I've dropped out of sports and I do whatever I can to get money for my drugs.
(This isn't actually me, it's posted for a friend.)

Thanks,
Skentelbery

Since you posted this for a friend, you could actually help him/her. For example, don't let him be peer presured so easily into doing stuff. Your his friend, defend him and help him make the right choices. Try to get your friend doing another activity other than drugs. Seriously, once your friend gets "REALLY" addicted then it will be so much harder. You can take him/her to a rehabilitation clinic if necessary. You stated "I see people in the media using drugs for pleasure." That is why they have ratings on movies and drug infulence is listed. When movie stars do drugs, it might make them seem cool, but they are very misleading. Just because you see someone else smoking doesn't make it right. In fact, later in their life, they will experience health problems, not to mention a ton of other problems.
--Bottom Line, Nothing good comes from drugs.

Peer pressure isn't fun at all, we all know it. But, there has to be someone in your life that isn't pressuring you...or at least I hope so. Talk to this person, get them to back you up on your wish to get out of the drug scene.
Not that you don't probably know this already, but taking codeine the way you're talking is dangerous and can be deadly. It's a drug no matter what and if addiction is the case, TELL SOMEONE. Anyone addicted is in danger and in need of help.
I know drugs make you forget your issues, but those issues aren't going to decide to just go bother someone else; you need to make them go away, or at least come to terms/solutions to them. Drugs aren't the solution because you come down from the high and the problems are still there, so you take more drugs and it's a nasty cycle.
My best answer is get help, either the person who posted this needs to help your friend, or the friend needs to help themselves.

Okay, if your friend is using codiene the way you described he/she most likely needs to see an addiction counselor. A 12 step program like narc-anon can also be helpful. Since the addiction, and peer pressure is so strong he/she will probably not stop without professional help.
