When I sign on to your screen name on a cell phone, does that cost money or will they only charge you if you send IM's? And does it cost money if people IM me but I don't open the IM (like a text message)?
If you don't read the IM, and just delete it then they don't charge.
But it also depends on the type of phone you have. I have a Motorola C139 and it doesn't even use a minute per IM. My twin sister has a TracFone and it works the same way!

Sherry answered Tuesday May 16 2006, 7:30 pm: It just charges you if you use IMs. It's 10 cents per IM, it can get pretty expensive. I used to have it and my mom had to pay like $200 so yeah it sucks.
If you get unlimited text messages, it counts for Instant Messaging too.
BrandonsGirl answered Tuesday May 16 2006, 6:59 pm: well it depends on your plan and your company (t mobile, verizon, ect) if its a part of your plan it should probably only cost a few dollars..i get it unlimited and i have t mobile cuz its on my plan so im guessing you might wanna check with your parent (unless your old enough to provide yourself with a phone) before you actually go on aim..
