Listening to new music doesn't change you. You change because something happneded, consiously or unconsiously, and your tastes change. You can't let your friends make you feel bad about who you are, but if you REALLY aren't happy with who you're becoming, that is something you would want to try and change.
But don't let friends guilt you to change back. If this is really who you're becoming, and you really do like who you're becoming, don't let guilt you to change back. That can just add to stress.

Four years ago I was into Britney Spears and now I'm into "emo" music. The things you go through definatley has an affect on the music you listen to. I never listened to emo/indie music before this one guy totally broke my heart.
If your going through stress, go to counseling. Whats it going to hurt? It wont, it might even just help you! Maybe you should go to conseling also to prevent from trying to hurt yourself again. If your always feeling depressed, thats another reason to go too.
