Check with the Board of Labor to see if there is an English language class in your town. If no then check the different schools, most have after hour’s classes that pertain to learning the English language. You’ll have to take several classes to become a citizen.

Spanish is my second language. I taught a friend English and he taught me Spanish. If you can practice with someone it helps.

I also have a software program that has videos and shows people talking in Spanish, it allows you to repeat the words until you get it right. You can buy the software to learn English too.

Regarding writing English, start with the lower grade books, that allows you to form and practice very simple sentances. A picture dictionary is a great tool too.

As another reader said, watch TV in English. However, turn the captions on in your lanaguage if possible.

talk to people. it's uncomfortable at first, and for a while, but that's the best way to learn any language - talking to the people who speak it. You'll even pick up on slang pretty quickly.

hey!! well i can probably help with this because i actually only moved to the US 8 years ago and didn't even speak a word of english, but now no one can tell. if you are older than 12 years old, chances are you will never lose your accent completely... I did because I was 12 when I came here, but they say that after that age, the part of your brain that is capable of learning a language 100% and allowing you to get rid of your accent doesn't function as well.

the best thing to do, and what i did is to speak the language as much as you can. browse the internet and read... read anything, it doesn't matter! when you don't know a word, look it up! maybe even try and find a word every day that you don't know and look it up! it will help!

also, watch TV and talk in english as much as you can! if you have family at home that speaks a different language, talk to them in english and tell them to do the same. try and use it as much as you can. if you surround yourself by it everywhere, then you will learn it fast and you will know it very well!

there is no miracle that will help you learn everything overnight, but you will get better with it with time! just talk to people, don't be shy and try to learn new things every day. :) good luck!
