Not always a morning person I'm usually either very lethargic or very pissed off in the morning and I figure I can fix that by adding something a little more enjoyable into my routine. I'll wake up earlier if it seems worth it. Does anyone have anything special they do in the morning that helps them not be a zombie/grump? (Note: going to Starbuck's every morning and other such expensive things are a bit out of the question).

Whenever you wake up go for a run & then a shower. You might not enjoy running but it definitly makes you feel better and it's healthy for you. I used to do it before school and it made me wake up faster and it was easier to function throughout the day. So obviously, the better you feel the happier, more pleasant you'll be!

Don't know if it'll help you but I found getting together a playlist of songs that make you feel generally happy and sticking it on first thing can work wonders. Small thing but it really can change your mood totally. Avoid human contact as much as possible for te first hour or so and, if you're a girl, take part in some shallow, shameless preening for purposes of making you feel good only. Being me I get excited about pretty-smelling, exfoliating shower gels but whatever floats your boat. x ]
Taking a shower helps. Haha, yea sometimes going to Starbucks everyday isn't that good of a habit (( I should break out of that... )) but maybe making your own coffee @ home? My parents HAVE to have coffee in the morning but they make their own. You can always do some stretches, that might wake you up. What helps me, is washing my face. Once I wash my face, put my facial mask on for 1O minutes & then wash it off... I'm usually awake. Try some of those things. Good luck.

You really should get more sleep than by going to bed earlier than you do so you can get a good start in the morning and starbucks does help alot. ]
I have the same problem that you do. What do I do? Set my alarm for half an hour earlier than I need to, and do a dance routine. Seriously, it's a real energy/mood boost-gets those endorphins jumping around. If you don't want to disturb your household with music, dance to your discman or MP3 player. Excercise gives a better high than coffee or sugar, because the endorphin rush lasts for longer, and is not followed by a crash as can happen with caffeine(unless you keep yourself constantly topped up, which is not a good idea , healthwise).
Also, you should finish off your morning routine with a good breakfast, without too much sugar:fruit, muesli and yogurt is a good combination, with perhaps water or fruit juice, and/or herbal tea(camomile is especially good after excercise). Try not to get too dependent on coffee or regular tea-caffeine is addicitve and a caffeine addiction could add to your morning slump.
