JNS answered Monday May 1 2006, 4:18 pm: I used to dance. In dance class our teacher made us do a variety of stomach exercises. She told us that there was a right way and a wrong way to o every kid of exercise. Stomach exercises in my opinion are the easiest to mess up. In you doing them incorrectly you can actually build your stomach muscle OUT! That means you will have a vey strong pregnant looking stomach. The trick is to concentrate on your belly button. Picture a string pulling your belly button towards your spine (almost like sucking in your belly.) That way your muscle strengthens, but also form in a way that supports your body.
It is very important to make sure that you breath as you do these exercises as well, breath out as you contract your tummy and in when you loosen it.
You should also rest between sets. Don't do 60 in one shot break it up. You'll see better results, because the controlled movement is how you get the results.
Make sure you always research a little before you start something new. You can really hurt yourself or worse give yourself the body you never wanted.
Good Luck! [ JNS's advice column | Ask JNS A Question ]
