Pretty much, you can get into the graphics end, which is generally a college course, or you can get into programming, also a college course, or there is an option (at least at my school) of a university degree in software engineering and game design, which is more like planning how the game will work, rather than doing the gritty work like graphics and programming; this is a university course, and I'm not sure if it's offered at most schools.
Hope I helped a little! ]
Dear Game Design,
Before you decide what school you need to ask yourself are you looking to go into game design programming or game design art and or both. Now its time to get real, no matter where you go you are going to spend 35,000-60,000 on a degree for a non traditional college education but fora traditional college education in that field, im not going to lie it will take twice as long and the education isn't quite as good.
Collins College- Tempe/Phoenix Arizona
Full Sail- Florida
DeVry University (newish but good I heard)
Brooks College- California (owned by collins)
there are pleny more but these are considered some of the best especailly the first two.

I assume you mean "how to pursue a career in game designing & development"?
Many colleges and training institutes offer courses and even degrees or certificates in game design. Look up colleges in your area, to start. Check their websites, or call them.
If you know anyone who's already a game designer, you might ask them, too.
And of course there's always Google.
