anybody know who originally unified the world numbering system into the arabic numbers?

According to Wikipedia (it's an amazing thing, this interweb) Arabic numerals were first introduced to the west by the Arab mathematicians Al-Khwarizmiand Al-Kindi in the 9th century AD.

However, the system was really popularised in Europe by Fibonacci (of Fibonacci sequence fame) in 1202.
