How do you make out? How do you know when you use your tongue? Where do you put your hands?

You can put your hands on his face,hair,neck ( if your standing up),or you can hold hands with him.

Making out just comes naturally. Start of kissing (mouth closed) then he will open his mouth and his tongue may push into yours. Explore his mouth. Run your toungue over his lips, his teeth, his tongue etc. You could push your tongue into his mouth then his tongue into your mouth and back and fourth.
