Sometimes though, there is no pain associated with Ovarian Cysts. So if your period is irregular/heavy or has other issues your doctor should do an ultra sound just to check for any abnormalities such as cysts before prescribing you any medication.
Pain caused by ovarian cysts can increase when you are menstruating- think very heavy cramps. My sister has ovarian cysts and complains of constant lower back pain that worsens when she has her period. [ Notso's advice column | Ask Notso A Question ]

Most ovarian cysts are functional and disappear on their own. However, some can be more serious. If you think you might have one, you really need to see your family doctor or gynecologist. They can do a pelvic exam or run tests to determine the type of cyst you have and the appropriate treatment. The links below should answer any questions you have.
