Why do people tend to try to manipulate others? and any tips on how to notice manipulations?

People manipulate other people, to get what they want, and know that they have a power over the person who they are manipulating.

Most people try and manipulate others so they can get what they want.

A few signs of maniuplations would be a person talking to you only because they want something, or a person always constantly being nice to only because they want something you have.
