MyHappyShoe answered Sunday June 11 2006, 12:47 pm: It usually costs around $40 depending on where you go. It doesn't hurt but it feels really weird. Before you get it pierced they will make you gargle mouth wash for 30 seconds then they will clamp your tongue and pierce it. After, it will swell a little and for the next week or so you probably wont be able to eat solid foods very well. Yes, most tongue piercings will "mess up" your teeth. My uncle makes dentures and he says about 1/4 of them are for people with tongue piercings. You just have to be really careful with it like, don't bite on it or play with it with your teeth and try not to rub it up against them. If you don't touch your teeth with it then you will be fine! MissNiceness answered Thursday March 16 2006, 6:01 pm: Tongue piercings run from aroung $30 to $60. In my opinion tongue piercing is about the same as getting your ears done (with a needle - it's less painful than the gun piercings for sure!) and less than a naval piercing. But the after effect is much worse for the tongue. Enjoy your favorite crunchy, chewy food or drinking through a straw because you won't be able to partake in any of that for 1-2 weeks! The day after mine I could only handle drinks from a cup and some yogurt. The next few days, oatmeal, pudding, soups and ice cream only for me! This is because your tongue WILL swell considerably after the piercing. However, the tongue is also one of the fastest healing parts of the body; which is why the "healing period" is only 2 weeks as oppossed to 6 with the ears. It is important to frequently brush and use mouthwash during the healing period, even though your tongue hurts!
After the swelling, you'll have to learn to chew with the stud through your tongue. As a newbie, a few times you'll accidentally clamp down on the bar which HURTS. But I dunno, in my case it didn't happen to much after the 3rd week or so, although I know of those where it them a lot longer to get used to it.
As far as the damage to the teeth; I had my tongue piercing for 3 years with absolutely no damage to my tooth enamel. But again, I did have that much of an issue of clamping my teeth down on the bar and my piercing was set pretty far back on my tongue (it didn't lay against my teeth at rest). You may want to ask the piercer about a wider range of experiences (although they'll be biased, but who knows, maybe you'll find an honest one). If your tounge gets infected they may have to cut it off. When you talk people they will usually be looking in your mouth. and when you eat , food will get stuck on it so if you eat corn and a piece of the skin gets cought on it and you move the ring around you have a strong chance of the skin going in your tounge to infect it!
bittersweet17 answered Saturday March 4 2006, 3:11 pm: it generally costs $25.00 to $50.00 to get your tounge peirced. i had mine done and the only thing that hurt was the clamps. after you get it done it hurts and you have to learn to talk again with it in. and also you can't eat solid food for a few days. and about problems with you teeth it causes cavitys & eats the enamil off of your teeth (thats why i took mine out)but i would look further into it if you want it done but thats all i can really tell you i hope you make the right choice.
