hypochondria im doing research on hypochondriacs for my psychology class. i found everything i needed from symptoms, to diagnosis, to treatment, but one thing i didnt find is how some of them make themselves sick by taking certain pills or something else like that. That also might be kind of like another illness. When i tried researching that, it just told me what the symptoms were for someone making themself sick. Does anyone know what they do? Like, what pills they take or what other things they do?

It's called psychosomatic tendencies. The mind tells the body that it's sick; the body responds by making itself so. Like the phrase "psyching yourself out." The person is probably made sick mostly because of the anxiety they put themselves through, which is extremely taxing on the body and manifests itself in a variety of physical syptoms. And if you self-medicate and don't need the medication, its effects and side-effects can really screw you up, too. Ex: Many pills can be used for more than one purpose. I was taking an anti-depressant for my allergies at one point, until the side-effects really screwed up my health, because I didn't NEED it for depression. So imagine what hypochondriacs are like. Even homeopathic remedies (which are generally considered placebos) can be harmful if taken overmuch. Hope this helps! ]
Hypochondriacs don't make themselve sick, they THINK themselves sick. It's amazing how much control you mind has over your physical well being, so ya, if you're always telling yourself that you're sick, sooner or later you will be. ]
In general hypochondriacs make themselves sick by just thinking about it all the time. Usually they " know " they are gonna get the flu or something like that, so they develop the symptoms. You can make yourself sick just by thinking it, its not hard if you keep telling yourself you are going to throw up you probly will. It's all in the brain. ]
