screwed voice...dammit

Question Posted Sunday February 19 2006, 5:13 pm

Shit hook! What awful luck. My choir is having an opera performance a week from now, which I have worked the whole year to perform in, and I have a cold! Not exactly a cold; my vocal chords are clogged with mucus. Does anyone know any active solution besides Robitussin (man, that stuff tastes like poison) that will restore my voice in time for the concert?

Anyone who says tea with honey and/or cough drops will get a 1.

drink plenty of water to loosen the mucus in your lungs this will make the mucus come up easier so you can cough it out, and the only way to clear out your lungs is to cough the gunk out. sit on your bed lean forward with your elbows on your thighs and take in a deep breath hold it as long as you can then let it out this should also help loosen the mucus out of your lungs. Hope this helped

Hey,
When I was clogged, I used Mucinex. They're pills so they have no taste, plus their fast-working. So you'll be able to breathe and sing. Just Remember: When you first take it, your gonna cough alot b/c all the mucus and phlem are breaking apart and it has to get out some way. But afterwards you'll be good. Also, even though your going to hate me for saying this, you really should drink tea w/ honey while your taking the pills b/c it keeps your chest all cleared til the Mucinex takes full affect. DO NOT take any cough drops, halls, or anything like that b/c while your coughing it could slide down your throat and choke you. hope I helped :)

Lol yeah Robitussin does taste horrid and I have a cold also which I am also using robitussin so I know the feeling. Well I think you should consider taking these pills: they are called tyenol cold (it's for day and it is severe congestion) It really helps and (lol) it has a minty taste. Also wen using tyenol cold make sure and read the back of the box (it's 2 ever 8 hrs and you must not crush, chew or melt!) And also if you want it to work fast, my dad being a doctor, taught me to use hot water in a large bowl (boiling water) get like vicks and add some and put a towel on your head and remain close to the bowl and breathe it in! It really makes your nose runny and all the mucus goes away. Good luck and best wishes

Well, I deffinately suggest to keep taking the medicine. But gargling with warm salt water helps and so does gargling with mouth wash, just dont swallow it. Eating bread/bagels can work too to scrape away the yucky stuff (sounds weird by im serious) Steam works, like taking a hot shower can break up the stuff.
