what is a shank? i know the part between your knee and ankle...but is there anyother definition for it? thanks

I think a shank is a makeshift weapon that inmates create out of anything they can get thier hands on to make sharp and hurt someone with.

But someone has a more detailed list. I took a criminal justice class and my ex husband was in prison a lot so thats where I got that info.

shank (shăngk)
n.
1. The part of the human leg between the knee and ankle.
2. A corresponding part in other vertebrates.
3. The whole leg of a human.
4. A leg or leglike part.
5. A cut of meat from the leg of a steer, calf, sheep, or lamb.
6. The long narrow part of a nail or pin.
7. A stem, stalk, or similar part.
8. Nautical. The stem of an anchor.
9. The long shaft of a fishhook.
10. The part of a tobacco pipe between the bowl and stem.
11. The shaft of a key.
12. The narrow section of the handle of a spoon.
13. Printing. The section of a body of type between the shoulder and the foot.
14. The narrow part of the sole of a shoe under the instep.
15. A piece of material, such as metal, that is used to reinforce or shape this part of a shoe.
