That's a really nice thing that you're doing! I used to be a girl scout & we just stuck to cookies but I admire your looking for help on ways to take part in community service. Here are some ideas--
1) Possibly shoveling snow [depending on where you live] for your neighbors.
2) Visting a local nursing home or shut-in to spend time with the senior citizens or others living there.
3) Clean the local Church.
4) Send cards to your local hospital.
5) Send thank-you notes to service workers in your community [ie. firemen, policemen, librarians, etc.]. Your effort on the card takes time & should count towards your hours!
6) Help out at your local library with the organizing and categorizing.
7) Collect donations to go towards your township.

I hope I was of help & good luck with this project!

If you're handy with research, why not try a living history project? Visit your local senior center or nursing home and talk to the people that were raised in your community or town. From experience, I can say they rarely get visitors who want to hear about "back then" and welcome the chance to talk about it. You'll learn a lot about your community while helping to brighten their day. Local historians will also thank you. If the stories aren't recorded in some way, they'll be lost forever. When you complete the project, it can be displayed in your school or town library. You can even use the research to write a book, which can be sold to benefit the seniors or even your girl scout group.

Another option is seeing if your local hospital has a candy striper program. If they don't, perhaps you can work with the hospital to set one up.

Hi, I guess I'm a senior citizen now, though I don't see myself as such yet. But I am 61 and luckily I am healthy, happy and very active.

You didn't mention whether you live in the city or out aways.... I was a farmer's kid so digging in the dirt was and still is a great love of mine.

As a senior citizen, I can now better relate with those around me that are older than me and recognize how many of them go unnoticed and unappreciated. I would suggest you choose something that will benefit them.

Some suggestions I've come up with are:

1) Perhaps there's a senior citizen center in your area and they could use some landscaping... especially with spring coming, perhaps some new, bright and fresh perennial flowers/shrubs that could be planted and arranged around their center.

2) Perhaps there's a nursing home close to your home... perhaps you could set up a visitation schedule with some of the residents and take small, very inexpensive handmade gifts to them on a regular basis.

3) Perhaps you could 'adopt' a senior couple or individual and do erands for them, some yard work or even jobs around within the home they no longer are able to do.

4)Perhaps you could set up a pen pal club with seniors in your state, or a birthday card program that wouldn't let a single senior's birthday pass w/o recognition... in your city or county or stat?

These are just some ideas, but I can imagine these endeavors would be very rewarding and beneficial for all involved. I hope this helps in some little way.... good luck with your gold award, I'm certain you'll earn yours without any problem.

Well, what I'm doing for my silver is fixing up the local resthome. It is literally disgusting and a horrible enviorment for them. Try fixing up that or voulenteering at a local pet shelter or something. If you have some kinda of park by you try to beautify it. Clean up and plant flowers and install benches. A great motivation is setting a reward for yourself if you complete it. For example, throwing a huge party when it's over with.

Well, you could always do basic fundraising ideas. Donate the proceeds to a local charity:
- Hold a clothing drive or a food drive.
- Hold a walkathon.
- Hold a concert and have some local bands play.
- Hold any kind of event.
Usually you can talk to your city's Recreational services and they can loan you a park for a day if it's for a charitable service. You can ask local shops to donate prizes so you can have a lottery during your event too.
Another idea is to hold a Senior's Day where you have various activities that Seniors can do. It's a good way to involve the youth and get them to connect with an older generation because Seniors these days are pretty afraid of "young people".
You could also do something like a Clean-Up-A-Creek Project. Band together and pick a littered part of your city/town and clean it up. It doesn't have to be a stream or a park. You could chose a soup kitchen and try to repaint it and do some minor repairs.
Good luck <33

You could throw a car wash and a bake sale at the same time. It will be really fun throwing because you and your friends and others can get together and have fun while helping others out. That is all the motivation you guys need. It's fun, easy, exciting, and it could raise you guys a great deal of money. Also, you guys could use the raised money to throw a dance, trip, party, etc. That would excite the people more to participate. Or, you could donate it to a good cause such as a Cancer fund or to the homeless. Either one would be great. I hope I helped and I wish you the best of luck in getting your gold award!
