Weight

Question Posted Tuesday July 22 2008, 11:17 am

I'm 17 years old and a junior in highschool. I recently went for a physical and realized that I weigh 95 pounds. I'm 5'8", and the doctor said that I was way underweight. She said that I may be coming anorexic, however this is the first time that that issue has ever come up. I eat EVERYTHING, and the reason I weigh that much is I play four sports, and I'm constantly doing something. What should I do to get everyone to stop worrying about me? And what should I do about my weight?

The best way to gain weight is to lift heavy weights. This won't give you fat but muscle. This will help you in your sports and get your family off your back. Some people can eat everything humanly possible and not gain weight but a way around that is to lift weights. Keep reeocrdfs of how much you are lifting for how lon to prove to your fmaily that you are not doing it on purpose. Also keep records of what you eat and how much. If they have proof, they will leave you alone.

I don't really know why your doctor would say your becoming anorexic because its ridiculouse(?). Athletes bodies are a bit diffrent from normal forms so its okay to be smaller. Every body is diffrent just ike everybody is diffrent. You may have an extremely fast matabolism because your an athlete and so it works of the carbs and calories diffrently. It makes absolutly no sence that your doctor would say that. 95 pounds is not under wheight. When you hit 90 and your 5'8 then you should worry. As long as your eating all your servings of fruit and veggies a day then thats good. Tell her your in all sorts of sports next time. Is it a new doctor? Have you had this woman before? That may answer why she would say that. FYI I don't know why the answer before mine says that your body will tell itsself it cant make babies. When your pregnant your body changes so when you eat you gain more to support your baby and it has nothing to do with aving fat on yourself before your pregnant, otherwise Nicole richie wouldn't have had a child:) You'll be able to have children when your ready to have children no matter what wheight you are:) Hope I helped:) .

well the doctor is probably concerned about your weight because if your body does not have enough body fat it tells itself it cant make babies. that is why girls naturally have more body fat than boys. because were supose to. shes probably worried that your hormones may try to shut down and make it so you cant have babies. (sometimes this can make you gain major weight.. its sorta like going into menapause) And maybe she just doesnt see alot of muscle mass on you. maybe she is afraid you are struggeling with anerexia nervosa which is very damaging to your entire body. so maybe try to fix them both? figure out about how many calories you eat every day. in fat carbs and protein. you probably should be eating 1500-1800 calories a day, mainly in carbs and protein. but dont forget to get some healthy fats in there like nuts and fish. eating enough carbs helps your body because carbs are very easy for your body to burn, so it can store the protein for when your working your body hard playing sports, and the healthy fats and likley to add a little bit of body fat. this may take awhile. it can be very hard to gain weight for some people, because you play sports your metabalism is probably very fast. if you are very concerned go back to your doctor and ask about meal planning for you to gain weight. either she will do it herself or she will refer you to a doctor or dietitian that knows more about it. Hopfully people will stop worrying about you and let you play your sports. i hope this helps if you have any more questions please message me back.

You may not be getting enough calories in the day. If your not anorexic don't care what people think. Start worring about eating more fruits, veggys. Drink 3 glasses of 8oz. of milk. Feed your mucsels what they need. You might have some health problems. Talk to your doctor and family about previous family members who have had a low weight. "The weight you entered is lower than may be healthy for your age and height. Ask a health care provider about your weight. They may ask about the foods you eat, your level of physical activity, and your family history. They can also determine your rate of growth and check for other health problems." hope i helped
and as long as you don't have an eating disorder I would focus more on getting your body to a normal level, rather than people talking.
