First of all, what a nice thing of your parents to give you that money! I know how tempting it must be for you to spend it. A good rule of thumb that I use when trying to decide what to buy, is to purchase the things that I NEED rather than what I WANT. You stated that you "want" clothes, not "NEED" clothes, and that you really "want" an ipod.
My suggestion to you is before you go out and blow all your money, put if in your bank account. This will stop you from being tempted to spend it. Then think long and hard about what you really need. Maybe you need a new pair of gym shoes, a hair cut, or money for birthday gifts for your friends. Make a list of all the things that you need.
One other about ipods: I looked into buying one myself and they are around 250 dollars, so you wouldnt have enough money for one anyways.
Good Luck!

WHY do you want an iPod? Do you want it because you want a portable music player? If so, get it, and who cares what the others think -- I have one, and it's fantastic, as I love the number of songs an iPod can store, how I can listen to podcasts, and use it as an external hard drive. However, if you only want to get one because it's cool, trendy, and it's all the rage right now (which, to be honest, seems like your train of thought at the moment), then you're better off not buying one.

I'm sorry if I come across as harsh, but I think it's a valid question to ask of yourself. You say you really want an iPod, but why?

Umm... it's up to you. But if you aren't desperate for an iPod, don't buy one. I agree with your friend, there will probably be a cooler iPod coming up.
