HIV/AIDS

Question Posted Monday February 6 2006, 3:16 am

i've looked on google under HIV and AIDS and i'm still a bit baffled at what really causes it. the sites i've been to only state that you get the virus from an already infected person through sex, sharing needles, or sleeping around.

my question is, how does one get infected in the first place? is it the mixing of body fluids in the bloodstream that causes it (i.e. anal sex, sharing needles/razors, etc)? could it possibly be led on from other stds? what is the real cause?

You are correct, HIV can generally be passed through blood and other body fluids. It's a virus, but unlike other viruses it isn't passed on if you sneeze on someone, hold hands, cough, etc. etc... You can look online for more info. Here is what I know about the virus itself:
A person can be infected with the HIV virus and show no symptoms. HIV attacks your helper T cells in your immune system (they are very important for a immune response). It injects it's nucleic acid (DNA/RNA) into the cell and hides there and your body doesn't reconize it as a virus. So eventually you get AIDS (immune-defeciency).

For someone to get the aids virus of to get hiv the have to either use a needle from someone of have sex or back when you could get it by a blood transfuseion (not now). It's hard to say where it came from but they are making alot of progress in finding a cure or slowing it down. hope i helped

According to this site the original origin of the disease is unknown and probably always will be. It seems to be a really interesting site though.

Yours is a very good question and I hope you find some answers here. SO, in case it isn't one you have already read, here is a link. :)
