black roses

Question Posted Saturday February 4 2006, 2:57 pm

I'm just curious. I know this sounds weird and I might sound uneducated, but are black roses just romanticized ideas by the silly minds of Gothic fashion fans, or is it actually possible to grow black roses?

actually, they are real. Tiger Woods had a ton of them at his wedding because they were his fiance's favorite flower. What's interesting is that they're actually a deep purple but not actually black. If you go to a good florist they would probably stock them. Or you could special order.

p.s. you can also get silk ones at craft stores such as A.C. Moore and Michaels.

As far as I remember, there is a kind of flower that looks like roses (and is often mistaken for roses, and I don't remember the name of that flower, I read about that more than five years ago) that comes in many colours, and there might be black ones.

black roses are not just romanticized ideas by the "silly minds of Goths" .. a lot of people like them, but they can not be grown like a red or white rose ..

No, it is not possible to grow black roses. Many scientists are trying to cross-breed them to find the 'black' rose though because there is such a demand for them.
For the meantime, you can try a dark purple rose. Those are always hanging around in flower shops sometimes.

MotherJune answered Saturday February 4 2006, 4:06 pm:
Currently there are no real black roses, they do not exist. Attempts are being made to cross-breed the darkest red roses available in an effort to create a marketable black rose, but so far they are not there yet. Some places sell fresh roses that are dried and then dyed black.

Its a Romance idea. You can tapmper with genetics to grow black roses but it to my knowledge hasn't been done. Part of being a goth is "BEAUTY" yes I said beauty kinda like a dead rose.
