permission to use screen caps?

ive made a yahoo group and i have put over a hundred screen caps on it of a tv program.
i got these pictures years ago off another website. im abit worried now about whether its iligal and if i have to ask permission from the tv company or someone even though i got them from a website?

Well, if they were on a website, then it's in the "public domain"; that is, free for the taking.

Of course, you're right: they're probably protected under copyright for the company that owns the rights to the television show.

But you say you got them years ago?

Odds are, the company not only doesn't care, but will never even notice.

You've got nothing to worry about; if, for some reason, the company owning the rights discovers your group, and takes issue with the pictures, you'll probably get an email from their legal department, after which you'll know that they don't want you having them up there. Otherwise, continue doing whatever it is you do. They won't send a SWAT team to your house or anything.
