How do i tell my mom I smoke

Question Posted Tuesday December 27 2005, 8:32 am

Hi Younggrandma. I read your rule #12 so I guess you'd think I look like a moron because I smoke. I wrote a general question about it yesterday but it got deleted so I guess the mods thought I was a moron to because I want to tell my mom.

I'm 14. My name is Katie and I've been smoking for two years. My mom smokes to. I've tried to quit b4 but its not something Im ready to do or want to do. I like it and I know I'm going to keep doing it. I just dont want to hide it any more.

Since ur older and you smoke and you have kids then I think you'd be able to tell me best how to talk to my mom about it. I want to ask her for permission to smoke in the house like she does.

My question that got deleted was if I should tell her to her face or write her a letter about it.

I'm not a bad girl. I just smoke cigarettes and I'm really not a moron. I just got addicted to something I like thats bad for me.

K8e,

Ah, those aren't my rules...I actually thought most of them were kinda funny! I don't think you are a moron.

I think it is great that you want to tell your mom you smoke. I think having to sneak around is a good way to start a fire.

I think you need to just sit down with her and talk about it. Tell you have been smoking a while and you just don't want to sneak anymore.
If you don't feel you can tell her like you'd want to then by all means write it down.

Sometimes writing something is a lot easier anyway. You don't have to worry about being side tracked by questions or opinions until it is read.

I think mom will appreciate your being honest. Not letting you smoke at this point will just keep you sneaking one so it really wouldn't do much good to say you couldn't.

I wish I could stop. But, like you I really don't want to...and I think that is the key. So, unlike some I won't give you the speech. You know it isn't good for you same as I do. :)

Let me know how it goes. I hope it goes well. I think it will. :)
