HectorJr answered Sunday December 4 2005, 9:20 am: How do you get faster...It may sound boring, but it would take running a lot of miles per day. Depends on your case and your ability, but just for example: I would run 6 miles a day, but not at 100% pressure, like say at 7.30 min per mile [my mile is 6.00]. So yeah if you get the idea, long distance stuff with medium or so pressure is what you want to try. Why? I'm a rower and the same principles apply for getting faster and having more endurance. So yes for our 5-6 minute races, we end up doing a 80-90 minute workout non-stop, but not at full pressure. I tried that last winter thinking: how is this going to help, shouldn't I just be doing fast stuff to get faster? Well I didn't and did what my coach told me to which was the longer workouts, and come spring I was at least 10x faster. So yeah try the long distance running, maybe 3 or 4 times a week, depending on your schedule. Feel free to break it up with shorter stuff too like 2 miles at a higher pressure. Hope that all makes sence and helps if not drop 1 in my inbox - good luck. [ HectorJr's advice column | Ask HectorJr A Question ]
