I've recently started dressing myself...

Question Posted Tuesday November 29 2005, 7:13 am

Haha, just kidding, I've been dressing myself for years, but the problem is that I've just now discovered my fashion sense. I actually know what looks cute and what doesn't! Before I used to wear hoodies and jeans, or t-shirts and jeans to school every day,(I'm a little bit chubby, so I liked that extra padding to hide it) but now I know what looks ok. The only problem is that I'm afraid to wear it. It's my junior year of high school, and right in the middle of the year is kind of a weird time to "re-invent myself". How do I get over this fear? I want to wear scarves to school, and nice jackets, and skirts, but I'm scared! Thanks! (I'll rate high if your advice is good, which is generally the concept or rating anyway..)

go for it
it is never a bad time to "re-invent" your self style
i think its awesome
all i wear to school is jeans, t-shirts and hoodies too
haha
but i think you should do what you want
who cared about what the other people think
this is your choice and your style
go crazy (but obviously not too crazy, even though every once in a while is fun) and have fun
this is something that you are doing for you
if people don't like it, it's their fault that you look gorgeous and they don't
not that i know what you look like, but oh well

i really think that you should try going for it. who cares if its the middle of the year! if you think that you have great style and want to show it off definatly go for it..i mean its alot better than hiding behind sweats and jeans.I kind of know what you mean because i like trying new things and i get self consiose about it but then i decide to go for it and everyone always ends of complementing on my style. so... if you want to try something new go for it and do what you think looks good not what everyone else thinks!!

-always helping

Why can't you "reinvent" yourself in the middle of the year?
As long as its a good look and it makes you happy.. it's a good thing!!

Good luck!

Don't be afraid!!

Are you HONESTLY going to hide behind baggy clothing and T's because your afraid of 'reinventing' yourself and having people notice? Nope! If anything, now is the best time. Make a smooth transition. Like, a little at a time.

The only way to get over the fear is by knowing this much; you owe it to yourself for the time you spent wearing unimpressive clothing.

What other people think DOESN'T matter...although the only thoughts they can have are gonna be good ones. Like..."Wow (yourname) looks really cute today"

Well you just have to wear something different one day maybe something small and simple at first like a nice jacket or something.. Then make it a little bit different in so many days.. Most likely you`ll get complimented if people aren`t like assholes at your school.. ♥ Dez

Don't be afraid to change the way you dress. Everyone does it, even t.v. stars... if you like fasion so much you probubly get magazines right? Well in the magazines they always show how really famous stars are walking around the street with hoodies and sweatpants... but then on the red carpet they change the way they dress! You are like the famous star who is'nt found yet... but with the new cool cloths you will look good enough to be on the red carpet! So, if anything everyone should complament you on the way you are dressing. But, always remember that if people are like making fun of you for the way you are dressing they are just jealous!!

hope this helps you

Just wear what you want. If anything, people are going to compliment your new look. They will get used to it after a few days.

Aww, dont be scared. If you like the clothes, then thats all that matters. Deffinitly start wearing the more fashinable stuff. I can tell your excited about wearing the stuff. Pssh, its ok to reinvent yourself in the middle of the year. You know what you could do is, wait until after winter break to change the old you. That way, you'll go back to school with cool clothes, and a different you. Good Luck, and hope I helped. And, never be afraid of being you, and what you want to wear.

That's such a great question! I know you think it'd be kinda random just to re-invent yourself in the middle of the school year but i think that'd be the best thing to do! Couldn't you just start off say wearing a nice jacket with what you usually wear or a nice skirt with what you usually wear? Do you know what i mean? If you phase things in gradually instead of going for the full thing you won't need to worry as much about being random.

Anyway whats the point in spending the rest of the year wearing the same old stuff when you know you could look better but you're just waiting for the next school year to start so it won't seem as weird? Go for it! If anyone says anything just say you thought it was time for a change and have a laugh at yourself- no one can say anything back to that!
Good luck you'll be great!

There's no better time to "reinvent" yourself than NOW! (Or, you could wait until after the upcoming holiday season and go back to school in January all reinvented and wow everyone, which I suspect you will.) I know we all worry about how others view us, but if you could try to focus on what YOU want and how YOU feel when you make these changes - I'm reading that you want a change and that you mostly feel good with the idea of change - then you will emit positive energy and a sense of security about your inner SELF which is so important to work on anyway. If you hold your head up high, have good posture, and smile, how can anyone not pick up on that great energy! Sure, you may surprise some folks, but I believe that you'll receive some very good "appraisals" and great feedback! If you're still afraid after reading this message, then I would suggest that you start with small changes to move into the "new you" more slowly, if that would make you feel more comfortable. Maybe start with jeans and a nice jacket with a scarf. You can make yourself look cool and fashionable with only slight changes. Then progress towards the more dramatic changes as you feel more and more comfortable. Also, try to think of yourself as VOLUPTUOUS instead of "chubby." If you can work on your own self-esteem without relying on the opinions of others (that's hard, I know), then you'll surely make a smashing success! I bet you'll look great and feel great too! I love change and I love to surprise people with the changes I make with my appearance. Even though I've had my own insecurity issues, with fashion I've always pretty much had the attitude of "I like it, and if you don't, then SO WHAT!" You'd be amazed how much that kind of attitude (kept in your head, not necessarily said out loud) will change how you are viewed.

Good luck with the NEW YOU! Let me know how the "change" works out. I'm excited for you!
