yes you can.
the steps are:
1. go to setup
2. click Preferences
3. Then a box will pop up and it will have a scroll bar on the left, click font

Download that. You can pick whatever color you want and whatever shade. It's so easy.

On your buddylist go to Setup, then preferences, then font then change it to what you want =]
