Hair falling out

Question Posted Sunday November 27 2005, 5:29 pm

I'm an 18-year-old female and lately my hair has been falling out like crazy. It's mostly when I brush it but even with just running my hand threw it, some still comes out. When I run my hand threw it's maybe like, 6 strands or so. But, when brushing it's like a wad of hair.

My hair used to be really thick and now it's like half of what it used to be about 7 months ago. That's alot of hair to loose!! I'm really scared because it seems like I'm going bald of something. My friends say it's stress but quite honestly, I have nothing to be stressed about!

Does anyone have any ideas???

I've never colored or done anything chemical to my hair and I've used the same shampoo and conditioner for the past few years..

Have you changed your diet at all? A drastic change in diet could lead to hair loss. If you're in college, chances are you're eating differently than you would at home. But I must agree with your roommate, stress is the main cause of hair loss. If you can't find any reason for this, go to a doctor! My brother had this condition called "alopecia areata", it gave him a bald spot in fourth grade. I'm not sure you have the symptoms for that, but it's something a doctor would know! They always have answers. :-D

Also, if you brush your hair excessively, it tends to fall out.

do you straighten it or use alot of gel or anything? that could be it

or changes in hormones can cause your hair to fall out.

did you just start college this fall? that could be why you are stressed even if you dont feel stressed at all.

i would just ignore it until you start getting bald spots or something weird like that

it may be condition in which you are allergic to your hair...i know it sounds weird but it can in fact happen. i suggest you go to your docter. my neice had it for a while, she went to the docter in the early stages of it and they were able to reverse it. on the other hand if you dont go and this is the case you could lose all of your hair and because you are allergic to it you wont grow anymore hair. so your best bet is the docter.

~hope i helped

Maybe your subconciously stressing from everyday life. Do you have a busy schedule? Well, I'm not a doctor, but I'd say definitely go to one before the situation worsens. Another cause of hair loss is malnutrition...are you getting the proper amounts of food to eat? A doctor might be able to help you stop whatever the situation may be. Definitely go if possible.
