Question Posted Monday November 7 2005, 12:02 am

There's this guy I've liked for a really long time, since the 7th grade (We're in the 9th grade). Let's call him Will. We used to be good friends, and joke around and stuff. But this year, we're in none of the same classes except Science. He's developed many female friends in all of his other classes; the new kids. This is alright, but I do feel a little replaced and I sense that we've drawn apart. I mean, we always talk on AIM, but in person he acts kind of bland around me. Have I lost him already, or is there some way that we can be the way we used to? It's not like we can go "hang out" anywhere because we're only 14 and stuff. I decided to ask you because you always give an intelligent answer.

I thank you for your belief in me. You are very kind. I can only hope that I can live up to your expectations. I don't believe you have lost him. What I think is happening right now is he is exploring. He may be sensing your insecurities and that is why he is backing off when he sees you in person. Start paying attention to how you are approaching him. He knows how you feel about him it may be obvious. He only wants to have fun right now. Just be his friend without expectation. Don't let anything interfere with that. He may explore friendships with other girls. Support him in this. He's going to do it anyway. Guys are real simple. He's in other classes with other girls. Guys go for that which is readily available. It's just how they work. He still cares about you or he wouldn't stay in contact with you via AIM. I know this hurts and I wish you didn't have to go through this, I truly do. I think you should explore friendships with other boys too. Have fun with the people you have contact with everyday as well. Who knows it might make him more interested in you if he sees others wanting to be with you. People always want what they can't have. But most of all, take care of you first. Don't put everything into one person yet. You are your most important asset. Treat yourself that way. Be confidant in who you are and you will be surprised what options will open up for you.

Good Luck!
