Trying to Become a PAID Advice Columnist I LOVE giving advice and I know you have to crawl before you can walk but I was wondering if anyone knows how I can get picked up by either a few magazines, newspapers or radio shows in order to do advice. I have a Masters in Clinical Psychology and have vast experieince in counseling and giving advice. I also have a book in the works and is being critiqued as we speak. I had a manager and we were putting together a demo wth a known radio d.j. but he got "other" ideas and wanted me to show him how much I really wanted to do the radio show and long story short, we parted weays. I have pictures (I am a former model) and I would LOVE to post them here on my site but they are too large to upload. ANY leads would be helpful.
Thanks!

Hey,
first of all I have read some of your advice on here and I think you're really, really good, so you shouldn't have any trouble getting someone to accept you once you've found a place to apply to! I advise using this place as a kind of resume, a reference, to show just how good you are!
If I was you, I would contact all the newspapers and magazines I could. They may already have advice people, but if they don't, they could hire you. If they DO have advice columnists already, they may want another, perhaps for cover work, perhaps for a different section of advice (i.e. medical, friendship, love life etc); their columnist could be leaving soon; or they may have connections or people they could refer you to for help. Teen magazines would probably be a good start, but go for big, well-respected, informative ones, not ones that are simply about 'hot guys' if you want some respect.
Oh, and I also know of a radio show called Late Night Love in England. A man hosts it and he basically spends the night playing love songs and giving people who ring in advice. If you apply to radio shows, you could suggest something like this. They even have a dating service and make a ton of money out of it.
Best of luck!!! ]
Wait til Abby or Ann or Alice dies.
Pounce on your job. Intern for them. ]
To be fully honest with you, this 'advice' dream will go nowhere fast.
Why? No one wants a public advice giver on radio shows, unless it is about sex, however you have Adam Corolla and Dr. Drew on Loveline to cover that.
I would say find interest in another area and expand on it. ]
Write to Dear Abby! After all, that's pretty much what you want to do isn't it?:)
Keep contacting to more publications that you think might be interested as well as furthering your studies in psychology. A masters looks good, but a doctorate looks better. I'm not saying it's a must, but the better the education, the more impressive. ]
hey
mybe you might be able to start your own website for giving advice! i'm not sure if you will get paid but hey you should go for it if you really are that interested in giving advice!
