Has anyone ever used Avast! anti-virus? If so, can you help me out here a little?
This scanner has found a virus on my PC and it told me the recommended action was to 'move it into the virus chest'. I clicked the button that did that...what happens to the virus now? What do I do next?
And can anyone explain what a 'trojan worm' virus will have done to my PC? How is my PC still functioning?
And also why a fully updated version of Norton Anti Virus has failed to pick this up over three years and yet this new virus scanner got it in five minutes?

Alin75 answered Saturday October 29 2005, 9:40 am: Norton Antivirus does not pick up all viruses whether it is updated or not. I have had fully updated versions of Norton that did not pick up viruses that the *free* version of AVG eliminated without a problem. I also use Avast now, and it seems like a top notch antivirus program. Anyway, once the virus is in the virus chest it is quarantined and you dont need to do anything else as far as I know.
As for the trojan, it depends on what type of virus it is (there are different kinds of trojans). Try to google the exact name as given by avast and you should find a description without too much difficulty. [ Alin75's advice column | Ask Alin75 A Question ]

This way the virus cannot harm your computer. Most virus programs require you to manually get to the virus chest and delete the viruses. Your Norton Anti Virus probably could not pick it up because you didn't take the time to update. My bud works with computers at the gov so he frequently emails me to update when necessary. MSN, for example, has a link where they'll update your computer for you. If you have a hard time remembering to update, try setting it on automatic and it'll usually prompt you to update weekly.
