Walt Disney

Question Posted Wednesday October 26 2005, 11:56 pm

I'm sure almost all of you have heard rumours that Walt Disney had many right-winged racist views. There are even rumours that he was addicted to pornography. The fact that a man who created such wonderful movies for children, and founded a billion dollar company based on making people smile, could possibly have a dark side is extremly intriguing to me. I've searched online for information about it but for such a popular rumour...I can't find any articles about Walt Disney's "dark side". I even checked out www.snopes.com only to come up with nothing. Can somebody please refer me to a website or even a book I could check out that would give me more information on where these rumours formed and if Walt Disney really did have a dark side? Thank you so much.

I've heard all this stuff too. I think that society seems to have a problem with men that are into children's entertainment. It has a lot to do with stereotypes. Remember all that crap about Steve from Blues Clues and how he had a drug overdose and died? None of that is true and the poor guy is having a terrible time getting his reputation back. Maybe there are things in Disney movies. That doesn't mean that Walt Disney himself had anything to do with it or knew about it at all. He didn't actually make the entire movies himself. They're all things that are very hard to detect that could have been slipped in there by other employees. When they were discovered it becomes Walt's responsibility. Even though he has nothing to do with it, because he is in charge he has to pay the consequences for other people's actions. It wouldn't make him look good if he denied everything and whined about the people that worked for him. He dealt with the situation(s) very professionally as he should have. Also, things like "sex" written in the stars may have just come out of people's imaginations. A bunch of dots can form whatever your imagination wants them too. If you post your "findings" on the internet soon everyone will hear about the huge "scandal" and believe it not to have been just a coincidence. People want to find problems in children's entertainment and they look for them. If you're looking for something there's a good chance that you'll find it whether it is really there or not. I don't think any of this has to do with Walt Disney's character. Like you said, he created wonderful movies for children and founded a billion dollar company based on making people smile. I think it's very wrong to judge Walt Disney and unless someone shows me Walt himself confessing to all this garbage, which I believe he would have if it were true, I'm not going to believe it and am going to take it for a load of crap just like what was done to poor Steve. I don't think that there's much information on the subject other than stuff on the internet that you can't trust to be fact. This being the case only proves how invalid the information is. I know I didn't really help you that much in finding more information, but I really don't think it's out there, sorry. Good luck though, it is interesting stuff!

Snopes should have answered your question. Walt Disney has been known to include some controversial things in their movies. The Little Mermaid cover, the boner priest, "sex" in the Lion King, etc. But the individual man was NOT addicted to porn,(but I am)and he was not racist. Check snopes again. They should address these issues.

When I read the question I searched everywhere I can't fina anything. I am interested in this question as well becuase I was told on the original cover of Little Mermaid there was a body part in the castle. I also heard that in the movie the Lion King ( the original version ) in the starry sky the word "sex" was spelt out with the stars. I don't know if these rumors are true but maybe these facts will help your search. Good luck. Sorry if I didn't help you. <3
