Question Posted Sunday October 16 2005, 7:14 pm

help i just got my dog some shoes from pet's mart, and they're sooooo cute! and we just got them today, but she walks really funny and weird in them... like she lifts up her feet too high and walks slow, and doesn't really want to move... do you think she just needs to get used to them... and do you think that once she gets used to them she'll start walking normally? if you think she will, how long do you think it'll take? we only put it on her feet when she goes outside, and she goes outside like after every few hours or something.

please help i rate high!!!

P.S. also, if you have a dog that actually has shoes too, then tell me how your dog was walking at first, and if it ever got used to it, and all that stuff!!! please give me some details so i'll know exactly!!!!

As cute as shoes may be for dogs, some don't like them. Why put your dog through the torture?

She's obviously uncomfortable in those shoes so just take them off and let her relax.

But when the weather is cold, some dogs do appreciate their little paws warm.

Ok so me and my sister are dog nuts and we give them clothes too, and none of the times that she's put the shoes she has on her dog has he walked right until he got used to them. it's really hard telling when your dog will get used to it. It took my dog almost a day and a half just to get used to a shirt that we had put on him.

Hope that helps some!

Yes I'm sure she'll get used to them but right now they are probably bugging the heck out of her so...its like when you tried to walk in heels for the first time, you wobbled right? Because you had to get used to them at first. Well, same with your dog!

The shoes are too lose from what you just wrote. If my dog was holding her paw up it means one of two things. She might be hurting her paw or is about to trip. If she/he trips you are screwed if the leg is injured. My advice dogs were never meant to wear shoes anyway but with those too lose and causing it problems walking do it a favor and take them back and cross the idea of shoes out. The animal is reacting as though it will trip over them so you need to take it away.

EDIT

You said: "that's just retarded. how are you supposed to walk her or put a leash on her?"

I have never seen a cat submit to someone leading them on a leash. Most cats are too independent for that kind of thing, and one would not be able to "walk" them.

Also, I wouldn't be calling people stupid when you can't even form a grammatically correct, coherent sentence. In this case, I believe "u" "r" the stupid one.

=)

If you don't want advice, don't ask for it sweetie.

/EDIT

Dogs aren't supposed to wear shoes, ok? You may think they look "cute" or whatever, but your dog obviously doesn't like them.

It could be hurting her feet by restricting her paws.

If you don't want her paws getting muddy, put her on a leash and take her outside to do her business.

She's not going to get used to it. If she doesn't like it, she's not ever going to like it. It's like cats with water.

Also, in response to your feedback on a previous answer, I've never seen a cat on a leash...do people actually do that?

Your dog will get used to it, just make her walk around with them for a while my dog has booties for the snow and at first she kept biting them off so I kept putting them on her and she finally got used to wearing them. She actually was walking sidewats at first it was hilarious. (She also wears coats, costumes, and hats.) Your dog will get used to them probably in like 4 or 5 days.

Well, here's my opinion on it. You should not make her wear shoes. Why? Because dogs were not really meant to wear shoes. It goes against nature. And sure, we see people dressing up their pets and it seems fine, but what if the animal is developing major psychological problems? It's like when I put a collar on my cat...he tried to attack his neck. I didn't want to force him to wear it, that would be cruel, so I took it off. If this is actually causing your dog to not want to move, I really do think you should take them off. I think it's degrading and humiliating to her, and like I said it goes against nature. She is meant to run around and chew stuffed animals, not to get dressed up, so please for her sake allow her to be a dog.

In response to your feedback:

It's humiliating because it makes her walk funny, perhaps?

I took the collar off him because it made him ATTACK HIS NECK!!! How is that healthy for a cat? You think I should just let my cat scratch up his neck and bite himself til he bleeds to death?!?!? And who puts a leash on a cat? What cat would even allow itself to be walked? They are different from dogs, you know.

I don't see how it's retarded. Dogs were not meant to wear shoes! How hard is that to understand? Before their descendants were domesticated, they did not wear shoes. If her feet get muddy, give her a bath and wash the floor! DUH!

I think it's just because your dog isnt used to shoes. It highly depends on what kind of dog you have to determind if she'll get used to them
