Juicygirl answered Thursday September 8 2005, 5:29 pm: Common misconceptions: a hymen can be "broken", a hymen is located outside the vagina, and a guy can tell if you're a virgin or not from the presence or absence of a hymen.
If you heard any of the above it is ALL false.
A hymen is a thin layer of lets say skin located outside your vagina. Sometimes you might not have one at all. A hymen can be torn, not broken, when playing sports, masturbation, rough play, or sexual intercourse with someone who has a larger penis, therefore you cannot determine if a girl is not a virgin just because they are missing or have a torn hymen. Just don't worry about it, it is not noticable and its not a painful experience. If you need more information, it is included in a previous post on my column. 3RingBinder answered Thursday September 8 2005, 5:28 pm: I agree with xXxpinky615xXx; however, when adults talk they usually use it in the context of having sex. Before our planet evolved in the world of medicine it was thought that the hymen is the only way to identify if the new bride was a virgin. Newlyweds after their first night as husband and wife used to walk around with their bed sheets and show off the blood that would come from when the hymen is broken, which would mean the wife was faithful and awaited her husband until the wedding night. In our time, it has been proven that a number of things can trigger the "breakage" of the hymen. A hymen is not something you can feel for or know if it broke or not in any of the scenarios above except the intercourse, though. [ 3RingBinder's advice column | Ask 3RingBinder A Question ]
xXxpinky615xXx answered Thursday September 8 2005, 5:16 pm: A hymen is a membranous fold of tissue that partly or completely occludes the external vaginal orifice. So it's like a layer of very thin skin inside the vagina. It can be broken doing anything, sitting down, getting your first period, riding a horse, being fingered, using a tampon, having sex... Pretty much anything can break it depending upon how delicate it is on each woman. [ xXxpinky615xXx's advice column | Ask xXxpinky615xXx A Question ]
