Punk????

Question Posted Thursday September 1 2005, 8:45 pm

Alright well I have these 2 differant groups of friends. One of my friends, Laura, is like this rocker/ punk and likes rock like HIM and The Used and she got me really into it. So now I'm all rocker-ish and wear like BMX shirts and a beany hat and everything and I really like this new apperance. (I used to be preppy) It's not like my attitude has changed or anything and I'm definately not going to go out and do pot or anything like that. But then my other group of friends are more like normal. They're not preppy or fall under a particular group. I love them all both the same and my other best friend, Jess, thinks that I'm going down the wrong path and I'm going to wind up in trouble. Him and this other guy I'm friends with are whispering and talking about me behind my back and saying how I've gone punk. And I don't want to be punk because I really haven't changed and I just don't want to be known as a punk. Jess also says that if I don't change back to the "old" me then he doesn't know he wants to be my friend anymore. This hurts because I'm best friends with both Jess and Laura. I want to stay how I am but how can I show Jess and my other friends I really haven't changed and how can I make them just accept the new me?

Thanks for all your help and I rate really high!!

*..:..* The "punk" *..:..*

PS I just entered High School (9th) and so this is when I'm experiancing like new personalities so I'm not really randomly changing.

You dress anyway you want to. Dressing a certain way doesn't change your personality any more than the type of music you listen to does, or the type of movies you watch do. Tell them to crawl out of the 50's. :)

Trust me, if you like what you're wearing, go do it! You're not a poser for changing, because what people don't understand is that no one was born PUNK, PREP, GOTH, ROCKER, SKATER, HIPPY, COUNTRY all that crap. You just become what you are eventually, and you have every right and tendancy to change some more it's a part of growing up. Tell people not to judge a book by it's cover, and that you still want to be there for them, and if they can't except your new style, then they don't have to, because it's mean to abandon a friend because of what they're wearing. Good Luck!!!

Don't label yourself! Just be what you want to be and you don't have to change your mind according to your friends' opinions. If YOU want to be punk, then be punk. And don't just change your look because of Jess or whoever. And don't change from preppy just cause Laura wants you to be all punkish. Do what YOU want.
