religion

Question Posted Friday August 26 2005, 11:42 pm

im 13/m, and im from the middle east, and my family follows the religion Islam. from time to time, im not sure if i completly believe in the ways of Islam. Sometimes im positive that there can't be a God, other times it's the other way around. But besides believing in God, i also find other things i disagree with about the Islam religion. I'm starting to be interested in Buddhism, and I like how the religion is set around believing whatever you want to believe, but i don't know how to tell my parents this, being that they are kind of religious. I'm also not sure if im too young to change my choice of religion.
sorry if its long. ill rate 5's.

well I am the same way, I mean who knows if there is a god? But anyway, I would just tell your parents how you feel, and for serious. They cant choose wich path of life you go on, they can only help you reach it. I hope this helps.

you're never too young to change your religion. i personaly find a lot of problems with the islamic religion. (no offence...i do know some stuff about it, so i'm not just some random person who's against islamic people) i'm a christian, but i've been thinking about buddhism a lot. you should study all religions, not just islam and buddhism, and try to see which one would be best for you.

i wouldnt say your too young just because of your age..you know what types of beleifs appeal to you..and what doesnt. however, i wouldnt lay it on your family right now about you beleiving in other things because
#1 they seem pretty religious and probably wouldnt take a liking to it very well
#2 you arent fully decided on what you want to follow.

eventually tell them when it feels right i say.

First of all, you are old enough to think for yourself. You have your own opinions so you can decide. I'm a Christian so let me explain a little on Christianity. Islam, if i'm correct, centers around getting to paradise through good works. Christianity is nothing like that. Jesus Christ came to earth and died on the cross for everybody's sins. He did that so we wouldn't have to work to get to Heaven. If we call on His name and trust him to save us from ETERNAL hell, He'll save us right then!!! We don't have to be perfect to get to paradise and be rewarded. But God does want us to try to be just like Him. That's why we read the Bible. The Bible is where God explains what he hates about sin and which ones he despises. Like murder for instance. He also teaches us on how to be more like him. Buddhism sounds cool because it is basically what you want. But that doesn't make sense. Religions are all centered around a supreme higher being, like God for example. Well, i hope i helped ya. If you have any questions at all, feel free to send one to the inbox. I'll pray for you!!!

You are too young to be in a religion in my opinion. But if it is very important to you to want to be in a diffrent religion now or when you grow older let them know how important it is to you ,to understand and respect your interests.I had someone in my family who wanted to vhange their religion, then my family had to accept it because they saw how important it was for him but it was hard convincing them. You should talk to them about this when there not too busy, have then sit down, take your time if you have to and if there is someone that supports you in this then tell that person to help you out to talk about this because this is something very serious. You could also tell them your point of view and why is it you're so interested in Buddhism, talk about the importance of it and use details as well about the religion.Good luck convincing them!
