after surgerey

Question Posted Wednesday August 17 2005, 2:10 pm

I just had surgerey earlier like at 10:45, and had anastesia. My dad and I were supposed to go to another city quite a few miles away. Do you think that I could go? We would go at like 7 or 8 tonight. Oh, did I mention we're going on his motorcycle? Yea, we are. So..do you think this would be alright? I need answers as soon as possible. Thanks

I don't think so, you should at least wait a day to rest.

I wouldn't. You are too prone to injury or illness at this point, and it is usually best to wait a few days. A lot depends on the type of surgery too. If it was on a joint of a limb, definately no, wait at least a month. If it was internal, maybe in a few days.. Depends on what the organ was.
It's not worth it. Driving would be fine, FYI, but not the motorcycle. Too risky.

It doesn't sound like a good idea, but (as everyone else has said) it also depends on what type of surgery you had.

Actually, if you had general anesthesia, I'd say you almost CERTAINLY shouldn't be riding a motorcycle.

And for most kinds of surgery, you'd be running a risk of causing yourself some damage by moving around so much. Right now you need to rest and allow the incision(s) to heal.

If this was utterly minor surgery - say, draining a cyst under local anesthetic - then you'll be fine, I guess. But for anything more than that, you shouldn't take the chance. Check with your doctor to be sure, though.

It depends on what sort of anesthesia was used, what type of surgery it was, and what type of motorcycle it is.

Now, I don't know about the sugery or anesthesia.

I do know a bit about bikes. My Better Half and I have a Harley Davidson Road King Classic. It is a comfortable bike for me. At the moment I'm five months pregnant and having no trouble at all when we ride. Our bike has a pretty cushy seat and a large backrest behind my seat. If I had some type of sugery I doubt I would be riding.

You have to take into consideration what sort of ride the bike provides. Is it a smooth ride? Can you sit comfortable when you ride? Our bike has an air suspension, so it's a nice smooth ride. I can also tell you that it' super comfortable... to the point that I've actually fallen asleep on long rides.

The ulitmate answer, though, isn't going to come from anyone here. It's going to come from your doctor and your Dad, but mainly your Dad. Ask your Dad to speak with your doc and see what he/she says. Ask your Dad what he thinks. He's going to be making the final decision on the ride and whether you get to go. Just be completely honest about any pain or effects from the anesthesia you are having. If you try to deceive your Dad in order to be able to go along for the ride, you could really put both yourself and him in danger.

Good luck,
bound

Call your doctors office and ask. No one here will know for sure based on that information. Chances are that a nurse or even a receptionist could give you better advice on this one than any of us.
