how do you save a animated icon? I know you have to save it to gif but how?

You just right click on the icon and then click save picture as then it will be saved. Hope this helps!!!

Did you make this icon, or are you trying to save it from a website?

If you made the icon, what program(s) did you use to make it?

Do you have any graphic-editing programs that you could save jpg's, png's, etc. as gif's? (Programs like Adobe or Paint Shop Pro)

It's kinda hard to answer your question, as you don't provide enough information to come to a solution. But if you can give me(us) that information, it'll make it so much easier to help you out.
