The smilies help the mods and the columnists know what other mods think of the question. If the question has a smilie face :) then the question has been rated an average of three. This is a really good question. A three question is normally:
- Out of the ordinary
- Extremely good grammar/spelling
- Good layout and presentation
- Not asked a million and one times
- Hasn't been asked by everyone and their dog
- Is sincere
- Isn't raunchy
A :| face is a question that has been rated with an average of two. A two question is normally:
- Pretty ordinary, but not awful
- Fair spelling/grammar
- Understandable layout/ presentation
- Frequently asked, but not overasked
- Fairly sincere
- Not awfully raunchy (normally)
A :( face is a question with an average rating of 1. A one question is normally:
- Boring.
- Terrible grammar/spelling
- Hard to understand.
- Overasked.
- Not sincere at all.
- Terribly raunchy, filled with bad content etc.
So you get the idea. If a question is rated five times with an average rating of 1, it gets deleted. If the question is rated with an average rating of 2, it stays with a :| face. If the question is rated with an average rating of 3, it stays with a :). The question with the highest rating is featured.
