Equity singer??
Can anybody (please!) explain to me the term(s) "equity singer" or "equity dancer" or "equity actor". I came across the term when I was looking through auditions/casting calls, and I'm really not sure what it means! Thanks in advance!

Equity is the name of the actors, dancers, and stagemanagers union. More predominate in theatre than film, many shows, in order to be 'union shows' must hire a certain ammount of union members and can only hire a very few non-union members (sometimes none at all). Since you had to ask, you are not a member of Equity, and can not be hired at an audition for Equity preformers. You need to stick to open auditions for the time being.
